The Word Made Flesh

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

Today, on Christmas Day, we celebrate the most profound truth of our faith: The Word became flesh. This simple statement, "The Word became flesh", encapsulates the miracle we call the Incarnation. It means that the infinite and unhurried God , who exists outside of time and space, stepped into our hurried, finite, physical world. God, the eternal Creator, took on human limits to become understandable, relatable, and fully present.

This is the ultimate answer to the longing, the silence, and the darkness discussed in the first week of Advent. God did not just send a prophet or an angel; He came Himself. The One who made us became one of us. In the face of a world constantly striving for speed and efficiency, the Incarnation is the ultimate act of humility and unhurried love. God was not in a rush to prove Himself, but patiently chose to enter the world as a helpless baby, growing and living a human life. This act assures us that God is not distant or busy, but is Immanuel, "God with us".

The reality of the Incarnation should compel us to slow down our day, even amidst the chaos of celebration. Contemplating this wonder—that the eternal God became human for you —is the most powerful antidote to a hurried heart. The unhurried God stepped into our hurried world to teach us how to live. He is not only present in the grand, spectacular moments but also in the simple, mundane reality of your Christmas morning. When we grasp the wonder of God becoming fully present, we can release the pressure to make the day "perfect" and instead find peace in His perfect presence. This truth is our greatest cause for unhurried gratitude.

Spend time today contemplating the reality that the eternal God became human for you, letting this wonder slow down your day.
